About the fish

Purest Omega fish oil is sourced from wild Pollock in the Bering Sea, which has an extremely low bycatch rate of less than 1%, compared to the US national averages of 17-22% determined by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). This means that Civic Nutrition set out to minimize wasteful fishing from the very start of manufacturing, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint and less disruption to the ocean’s ecosystem.

The source of Purest Omega is certified sustainable and traceable by the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). The MSC certifies their fish at the level of raw ingredient sourcing and manufacturing to assure that our fish oils is sustainable and traceable back to the fishery. This means that the PUREST OMEGAS 3 fish oil has a point of certification to help assure its quality and that it is made from 100% wild Pollock oil.

Wild Pollock is managed tightly through the US government and State of Alaska to ensure the fishery’s health and sustainability. The annual Alaskan Pollock catch ranges from 1 million to 1.4 million tons, which is 50% of the Acceptable Biological Catch (ABC). The monitoring and sustainable fishing practices have shown effective, with a 65% increase in wild Pollock biomass in 2014.

The MSC certification program was rated #1 in a 2012 report by Accenture Development Partnerships, commissioned by the World Wildlife Foundation that assessed seafood sustainability certifications compared to other programs lead by Friend of the Sea, ASMI and Iceland.

    • Fish allergy: SOLAL Fish Oil Extract Omega 3 contains omega 3 fatty acids derived from a fish source. SOLAL Fish Oil Extract Omega 3 should be used with caution in individuals with known hypersensitivity to fish and/or shellfish.
    • LDL levels: Omega 3 fatty acids can increase low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels. LDL levels should be periodically monitored during treatment.
    Side effects 
    • Side effects may include hypotension, increased LDL, skin rash, gastrointestinal upset, nausea, diarrhoea, reflux, heartburn, indigestion, fishy aftertaste/ eructation, mild elevation of liver function tests, raised liver enzymes (ALT), haematological (bleeding), major depression, bipolar disorder, restlessness.
    • SOLAL Fish Oil Extract Omega 3 is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity (e.g. anaphylactic reaction) to fish oil or any of its components.
    • Anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents: In theory, omega 3 fatty acids may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with medicines and herbal supplements that increase the risk of bleeding. Some examples include aspirin, warfarin, heparin, clopidogrel, NSAIDs, alfalfa, American ginseng, angelica, anise, Arnica montana, asafetida, aspen bark, bilberry, birch, black cohosh, bladderwrack, bogbean, boldo, borage seed oil, bromelain, capsicum, cat's claw, celery, chamomile, chaparral, clove, coleus, cordyceps, danshen, devil's claw, dong quai, evening primrose oil, fenugreek, feverfew, flaxseed/flax powder (not a concern with flaxseed oil), ginger, grapefruit juice, grapeseed, green tea, guggul, gymnestra, horse chestnut, horseradish, licorice root, lovage root, male fern, meadowsweet, nordihydroguairetic acid (NDGA), onion, papain, Panax ginseng, parsley, passionflower, poplar, prickly ash, propolis, quassia, red clover, reishi, Siberian ginseng, rue, sweet birch, sweet clover, turmeric, vitamin E, white willow, wild carrot, wild lettuce, willow, wintergreen, and yucca.

    • Vitamin E: Fish oils can reduce vitamin E levels. The mechanism could be due to reduced vitamin E absorption or increased vitamin E utilisation by tissues to reduce free radicals and prevent peroxidative damage.
