What if I test positive?

Receiving a positive result can be difficult. Please make an appointment to see your doctor or local clinic in order to receive the appropriate treatment to ensure your optimal health.

What is Gonorrhea

A sexually transmitted bacterial infection that, if untreated, may cause infertility.
Regular screening can help detect instances when an infection is present despite having no symptoms.
Symptoms include painful urination and abnormal discharge from the penis or vagina. Men may experience testicular pain and women may experience pain in the lower stomach. In some cases, gonorrhea has no symptoms.
Gonorrhea can be treated with antibiotics. Gonorrhea often occurs alongside chlamydia. If you have one of these STDs, you might have the other because the risk factors are very similar. Getting tested for both is important.

Whether symptoms are present or not, untreated gonorrhea can cause serious health problems. In women, untreated gonorrhea can lead to scarring of the Fallopian tubes causing permanent damage leading to infertility or potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. In men, untreated cases can lead to epididymitis, which can, but very rarely does, cause sterility. Gonorrhea can also cause scarring of the urethra in men.
