The body’s natural detoxification system operates in two phases:
Phase I:When chemicals enter your body, certain detoxifying enzymes break them down them into metabolites, which may still be potentially harmful. An easy way to imagine these metabolites is a broken piece of glass with “rough edges”. If these “edges” aren’t processed further, they can interfere with normal cell function by damaging cellular DNA, proteins and lipids.
Phase II:Additional detoxifying enzymes process the potentially harmful metabolites into water-soluble compounds, which can be excreted from the body easily.

Why supplement sulforaphane?
Since sulforaphane is associated with cruciferous vegetables, many people think they can get all the benefits of this miraculous compound simply by eating their vegetables. Unfortunately, it isn’t that simple, as sulforaphane itself isn’t found in broccoli. Rather, it’s the essential ingredients glucoraphanin and myrosinase that are present in the plant – and, depending on seed quality, soil composition, plant age, and other factors, these compounds may not, in fact, be present in high enough quantities to allow for adequate sulforaphane production. Cooking broccoli also typically destroys the myrosinase enzyme, thereby limiting the production of sulforaphane.
