BDKRB2
The BDKRB2 gene provides instructions for making a protein which acts as a receptor for Bradykinins, a family of proteins that elicit many responses including vasodilation, edema, smooth muscle spasm and pain fiber stimulation.
B2-bradykinin receptor mediates most of the inflammatory actions of bradykinin. B2-bradykinin receptor is widely present in most tissues, including joint tissues.
The common BDKRB2-58T/C gene ancestral allele in the promoter region is associated with the risk of hypertension, whereas the variant T allele is associated with improved endurance athleticism. [PMID: 27007662]
