VEGF
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a signaling protein that promotes the growth of new blood vessels. VEGF forms part of the mechanism that restores the blood supply to cells and tissues when they are deprived of oxygenated blood due to compromised blood circulation levels of VEGF, therefore, impact blood flow and oxygenation - these factors influence muscle efficiency and aerobic capacity.
This enzyme plays a role in the repair and the formation of new blood vessels.
The AA-allele is the risk genotype and has been associated with a decreased function in forming new blood vessels and increased fluid on the lungs during infections.
